The property was purchased in 1976, at the time a run-down farm on the sharpest bend of the Margaret River. Located close to the coast with views of the Indian Ocean, the name Burnside has its origins in Ireland where it means one who lives by a burn or stream. Vineyard management embraces sustainable 'old school' practices that mark a return to methods used before the development of industrial agriculture. | |

Tasting note |
Aromas of ripe peach give way to nuances of fresh pineapple and light brioche dough. The palate is multi-layered with ripe peach, crème caramel and underlying natural ferment characters. Textural layers are supported by persistent mineral acidity, combining power and grace.

94 points, The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson, 11th March 2017Burnside vineyard holds the oldest chardonnay vines of McHenry Hohnen's suite of vineyards. Only about 20% new oak these days. Wild ferment, time on lees, no malolactic fermentation. Magnificent release, once again. Complex perfume offering neat mesh of flinty-mineral character, nougat, fresh cut stone fruit. Pure, powerful in the palate, so racy and yet imbued with lemony freshness and brightness. Fine, sleek lines, beautiful expression. |
