Established in 1781 in the Northern Rhone Valley, Vidal-Fleury is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Rhone Valley. Guy Sarton-du-Jonchay joined the company in 2008 and has been instrumental in bringing new life to the company and improving wine quality. The harvest in 2012 was generous and healthy and the berries reached perfect maturity. 'Here the Syrah shines through with beautiful round tannins, delicious notes of red fruits and liquorice together with some woody character' says Guy. | |

90 points, Wine Spectator, Oct 15, 2014'Focused, with a plum skin and anise frame around the core of dark cherry and raspberry fruit. Subtle mesquite and sanguine notes line the fine-grained finish.' The Press (York), Mike Tipping, 8th Nov. 2014''...is all a good syrah should be, earthy, long and complex...but make sure you give this wine some time to breathe. It opens out to reveal black pepper spiced flavours of brambles and raspberries, with liquorice, vanilla and floral notes...' Manchester Evening News, Andy Cronshaw, 25th Oct. 2014'...This is the archetypal autumnal red. There’s smoky black pepper and anise on the nose but the fruit is exceptionally fresh with discreet oak.' Jamie Goode's wine blog, 24th October 2014'...Lovely sweet pure black cherry and blackberry nose with nice peppery spicy framing. Supple, fresh, direct palate with nicely weighted sweet black fruits and a hint of olive and black pepper. Typical, stylish and delicious, showing great balance.' 16 Points, JancisRobinson.com, 14th Nov. 2014'Mid crimson. Pale rim. Very ripe for a Crozes, albeit unmistakeable northern Rhone on the nose. Lovely freshness combined with sufficient ripeness and then sandy tannins. Classic stuff with nothing overdone. A bit of polished sinew here. Very lively. Dry finish and clearly has quite a bit of life left in it. For those who like lighter but classic reds.' Sunday Express, Jamie Goode, 16th Nov. 2014'...This is a really superb example of northern Rhone syrah with sleek, ripe blackberry and black-cherry fruit framed by spicy black pepper. It’s well worth the premium price...' Best in Show Syrah, Northern Hemisphere2015 London Wine Fair, judged by the IWSC |
