It's a split down the line for these sites. Half comes from the in-laws on the east side of town which is a sandy loam, the remainder from Rocky Road with its heavy lateritic soils. Combined there is a Taoist element in the tannin structure; firmness with softness; this could only be attributed to these soil difference. Vineyard management takes a back to basics approach at McHenry Hohnen embracing sustainable 'Old School' practices that were used before the rise of intense agriculture.

Tasting note	Medium bodied with gentle, ripe tannins and a rounded finish The fruit is rich and earthy with rounded plum and bramble fruit supported by farm yardy characters and herbal hints. PDF download full product information
Awards and Accolades	3 Stars, Decanter November 2011 Spice, primary black fruit, fine oak, red berry jam, earth, meat and pepper aroma. Very appealing, with lovely earthy fruit and velvety mouthfeel. Savoury finish. James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion Dense, deep purple-crimson; as concentrated and focused as the colour would suggest, but not extractive; black cherry, satsuma plum, licorice and grainy tannins drive the wine, oak merely the vehicle. 94 Points
