Situated about 10 Km from Dijon, Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the first viticultural villages of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyards are only planted with Pinot Noir and range from the premier crus in the north of the village and the Grand Crus in the South with the village appellations grouped towards the bottom of the slope. The sparse and pebbly limestone-rich, brown-red soils give Gevrey-Chambertin wines their power and body. | |

Tasting note |
This Gevrey-Chambertin has a dark ruby colour and on the nose we discover lightly wooded notes of cassis. These cassis notes are revealed again upon tasting mixed with hints of liquorice and a light peppery touch on the back palate, all highlighted by the present yet subtle tannins. This Pinot Noir has beautiful structure in the mouth.

Tom Cannavan, www.wine-pages.com, Aug 2012One of the most famous villages of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin produces only red wines. A lovely pale colour again, though a little darker than the Marsannay, there's a lovely sappy, earthy lift to the nose here, with delicate floral touches over more blackcurranty fruit. On the palate there is more substance here; not only more weight and texture, but a more juicy and solid core of fruit that powers the mid palate. Tannins are fairly beefy in this, and the freshness of the cherry-skin acidity along with plenty of spicy character gives it a fairly lean and structured finish. Drinking well, but will cellar for a few years yet and could soften a little in that time. 89/100. |
