We’re delighted to announce our first shipment of wines from Pyramid Valley and Smith & Sheth has arrived in the UK! Here is a little more information about them.
Pyramid Valley is one of the pre-eminent practitioners of biodynamic viticulture in New Zealand.
Founded in 2000, Pyramid Valley was carefully chosen after searching the world for the best place to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, finally settling on a unique site in North Canterbury near the town of Waikari. In 2017, a second vineyard was purchased in Lowburn, Central Otago. Pyramid Valley is now run by Steve Smith MW (R) and Brian Sheth (L).
Steve Smith MW has a formidable reputation in the wine industry and Brian Sheth is an investor and wildlife conservationist with a strong love for New Zealand. They share a love for fine wine and took over the running of Pyramid Valley and finally realised a life-long dream.
Both sites are managed following the principals of biodynamic viticulture and the winemaking follows natural processes with the use of indigenous yeast, no additives, natural fining and little, if any, filtration.
We currently have the following wines in the UK:
Appellation Series
Botanical Collection – limited stocks arriving in September
Smith & Sheth is a contemporary négociant inspired by the original French négociants and British merchants who worked, using their connections, to create expert wines.
In 2014 Steve Steve MW and Brian Sheth realised their dream and began building on over 35 years spent forging relationships.
The French have terroir, meaning a sense of place, but in New Zealand they have their own defining word - Tūrangawaewae which defines a special place in the world where one feels connected and empowered. This word describes the special connection of a people and the land they live and work in. Smith & Sheth hand select only the best fruit from exceptional vineyards, then nurture, blend and bottle wines that express the beauty and character of a place, and the passion of its people under the CRU label.
We’ll be listing the following wines from them:
