Wakefield's St Andrews Chardonnay 2013 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 have just been awarded gold at the Challenge International du Vin, longest running major international wine competition which takes place in Bordeaux.
The Taylor family have entered their wines in international competitions for many years and consistently wine praise and fans for their wines.
The Chardonnay was awarded its 10th gold in this competition and is the 11th gold medal that has been awarded to this vintage. Wakefield's winemaker Adam Eggins aim is to craft a wine with delicacy and finesse when creating the St Andrew's Chardonnay. The grapes are harvested in the cool of night before being whole punch pressed and then fermented and aged in French oak barrels from Louis Latour's artisan cooperage in Beaune.
The Cabernet's medal brings the 2012 vintage's tally to eight golds and one trophy. The Taylor family make classic Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignons which deftly combine generosity and freshness. The wine comes from the St Andrews Block A70 which grows on red loam with chalk and limestone substrate.
