A few days ago we received an update on how the season has been at Seresin Estate from Winemaker Clive Dougall. It’s always great to hear what is happening in the vineyards and here at Louis Latour we can’t wait to taste the wine in the months and years to come.
We would normally expect to start harvest around the 25th March but with this year we’re looking about 5/6 days late. It was an interesting growing season to say the least! We had a great start; there was good soil moisture at the beginning of the growing season which led to good growth and it really helped get the leaves working. When it came to flowering the climate was quite cool and challenging which means we don’t have massive yields however, this is not a bad thing for quality. The year was quite cool overall, which means the wines will be more elegant and less powerful. We’re very excited for the vintage.
We’ve also been brewing a lot of nettle tea and equisetum tea ready for our new programme. These teas will drench the soil the day after picking, we’re looking to take care of the vineyard all around the year and really apply help the vines recover before they settle for winter. We’ve also increased our 501 (quartz crystal) sprays this. In cool years the spray adds strength and vitality to the vineyard and we’ve done three over the last few moon periods so we hope to see the results in the quality of the fruit. Here’s to a great vintage!
