Restaurant & Bar Awards Season 2020

February is awards season and we are thrilled that Champagne is Gosset supports two of the UKs most exciting on-trade awards; Imbibe Personality of the Year and Class Bar Awards. They are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work, dedication and skill of those involved in the industry and a chance to meet friends old and new. 

In its 10th year, Imbibe’s Personality of the Year Awards took place on a rainy night at the top of Sea Containers Hotel in London. It was a very busy evening and the venue’s stunning views across the Thames and the City of London made it a really special place to celebrate. Gosset supported the award for Sommelier of the Year and were very happy to present the award to Elly Owen of Paul Ainsworth, Cornwall with a mention for runner up Bert Blaise of St Leonards, London.

The Imbibe judges said of Elly “In an industry that can be more about the drink than about the people, it was Elly’s people-first approach to her job that got the judges vote. Her personality and love for hospitality, and the people within it, shone through in her entry alongside an inventive approach to inspiring people all about wine including wine silent discos and wine and music events also won praise.”

The following week the Class Bar Awards team rolled into town and put on their usual glittering night, this year at a new to us venue, EartH in Hackney, East London. The bar worlds finest assembled for a night of cocktails and a celebration of the UKs best bars and bartenders.

For the second year running Champagne Gosset supported the Lifetime Achievement Award which recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry. This year the award went to Tomas Estes, a legend in the world of Tequila with over forty years experience as a bar and restaurant owner, co-founder of the Ocho tequila brand and a Tequila Ambassador for the Mexican government. Unfortunately Tomas was unable to join the party but we were very pleased to meet his son Jesse Estes who collected the award on his behalf.
