June sees the UK launch of two new products: Gosset Grand Millesime 2012 and Frapin 15 Year Old XO.
Gosset Grand Millesime 2012 is a blend of 67% Chardonnay and 33% Pinot Noir. The wine has been vinified and aged on lees with malolactic fermentation avoided, as per Gosset’s house style. This preserves the fruit aromas of the wine while allowing the wines to undergo longer ageing (5 years on lees). Dosage is 8 g/l to maintain balance without masking the wine’s personality.
A wonderfully fresh and expressive first impression reveals pear and peach which develops into notes of grapefruit, aniseed and liquorice. The lively attack is delightfully taut. The finely poised, full-bodied palate remains incredibly light, with every sip revealing notes of damson and Mirabelle plum followed by orange and pink grapefruit. Sustained by a bold liveliness, the wine finishes satisfyingly with just a hint of salinity.
Cellar master Odilon de Varine comments “Quality does not have to come with great age! This is a fresh and elegant vintage in which Chardonnay expresses itself fully.”
Frapin have also released a new product, a cognac that is a different proposition to their others. Frapin 15 Year Old XO is a blend of eaux-de-vies grown, distilled and aged on their 240 hectare vineyard. Patrice Piveteau, Cellar Master, manages each step of the process. This is their only congac to containing eaux-de-vies from both their humid and dry cellars. The former lends roundness and richness whilst the latter gives finesse and elegance.
Aromatically complex with notes of freshly cut wood, vanilla and black tea evolving to dried flowers. The palate offers flavours of dried fruits, toast and a lingering finish with touches of spice. This is a robust cognac which simultaneously evokes the tradition of Frapin while carrying it into the future.
Patrice Piveteau declares "Frapin 15 Year Old XO has been bottled at cask strength and bears the seal of the house which signifies our quest for authenticity. it passes directly from barrel to bottle with no adjustment or chill-filtering in order to preserve all of the naturally rich aromas and flavours of this cognac."
