Viu Manent has reimagined their Single Vineyard range. The range contains three wines each from their three vineyards and each with the variety most suited to the soil. San Carlos represents Malbec, La Capilla Cabernet Sauvignon and El Olivar Syrah. The new labels are from the 2017 vintage. Each wine is from selected blocks from each of the three main vineyards and has a strong personality while representing the concentration and quality associated with Viu Manent.
Cristian Urzua, territory manager for Viu Manent, explains, “the reasons for changing the packaging is to put an emphasis on the specific identity for each wine. Our goal is to have each variety represent its vineyard of origin, so the name of the property is clearly visible on the label. We have also incorporated illustrations to show the depth of the soil, and, using a different colour denote the vineyard for each label.”
New to the UK is El Olivar Syrah 2017. In 1999 Viu Manent acquired El Olivar vineyard. While the El Olivar vineyard is 325 ha (800 acres), no more than 70 ha will be vineyard planted on the piedmont and hills of El Olivar Estate. The remaining land will be maintained as a natural reserve for the native wildlife and vegetation.
Violet-purple in colour. The nose offers aromas of blackberries, cherries, plums, and strawberries. These flavours combine with good structure, fruity concentration, delicious acidity, and tannic tension to result in a pleasing, persistent finish.
