Some great news just in from Banfi, their restaurant, Sala dei Grappoli and its chef Domenico Francone and his team at Castello Banfi-Il Borgo, have been awarded a much coveted Michelin Star in this years Michelin Guide.
In this Covid-challenged year, and the subsequent issues that have beset the hospitality trade, this award represents a real achievement for Domenico Francone and his team.
Domenico, originally from Apulia, first joined the original Ristorante Banfi in 2008,but after a stint working in London at Apsleys, the lure of Tuscany and the Sala dei Grappoli restaurant proved too strong and he returned to become Executive Chef at Sala dei Grappoli. The restaurant marries authentic flavours of Italy and the Mediterranean using local produce, all beautifully matched with Banfi’s wines.
On hearing the good news, Domenico said, “to achieve my first Michelin Star is a great achievement for the entire dining and kitchen team. This rewards our daily work and great passion to serve our guests the variety of tastes and colours of the Italian tradition. We are infinitely grateful to all those who believe in our commitment, encouraging us to improve every day”.
