Stand B22
Three dimensions of Clare Valley Shiraz and Cabernet from Wakefield Wines.
Wakefield Wines was founded in 1969 with the express intention of producing fine Cabernet and Shiraz in the southern Clare Valley. Their first 1973 release was awarded best red wine at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show and received a gold medal in every national competition it was entered in. This tradition of excellence continues today with wide spread acknowledgement of the quality of the Taylor family’s Wakefield Wines.
Join Adrian Atkinson to explore three expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from Wakefield’s Clare Valley estate and understand how each one offers a different perspective of what they have to offer.
Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 and Estate Shiraz 2015
Wakefield’s estate wines were the first released by the family. They are still crafted with the same care and attention as the 1973 release and seek to capture the unique terroir of the Southern Clare Valley, characterised by Terra Rossa soils and a wide temperature range and the varietal characteristics
St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 and St Andrews Shiraz 2014 – new releases
The St Andrews property was first established in the 1890s by Scottish settlers and borders the Taylor Family’s vineyards. The Taylor family were able to purchase the property in the 1990s and the first wines released in 1999. Today the St Andrews range is formed from blocks in these old vineyards with a number of other selected parcels from around the estate. They are handcrafted in limited quantities and only released in the best vintages.
The Visionary Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 and The Pioneer Shiraz 2013 – new releases
The Visionary and The Pioneer are the newest releases from the Taylor family. They are made in very limited quantities and resulted from an ever deeper understanding of their vineyards and the discovery of truly exceptional barrels of wine.
The Visionary was the first to be released and is named in honour of Bill Taylor Senior, the founder of the company. The 2013 marks the fourth release of this wine. The Pioneer is now in its second vintage and is named in honour of Bill Taylor, the son of the founder and father to the current generation leading the family business.
