Viu Manent has launched a brand-new wine: Viu 8 Cuvée Infinito.
Cuvée Infinito symbolizes change and the ongoing search for identity as well as the balance of the varieties in this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from the century-old San Carlos vineyard located in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Malbec and 12% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are from their San Carlos vineyard, a century-old plot near Cunaco in the Colchagua Valley. 2016 is the first vintage and this wine is now available in the UK.
The label features the number 8 on its side as the symbol for ‘infinity’. This symbol represents eternal movement, regeneration and change. In vertical form the symbol reflects a balance between forces.
A deep ruby-red color with violet hues. The nose is serious and classic, with aromas of blackcurrant, red fruit, cherries, and forest floor coupled with a subtle note of cedar. The palate offers abundant fine tannins and is concentrated, tasty, elegant, vibrant, and very well balanced, with a deep finish.
The grapes were selected and sorted three times before undergoing a 5-day maceration prior to fermentation. Maceration lasted for 25 days before the wine was transferred to French oak barrels (25% new) for 14 months ageing. Following this the wine then spent 5 months in cement eggs. The wine was bottled unfiltered.
Viu Manent was founded in 1935 by Catalan immigrant Miguel Viu Garcia and his sons Agustin and Miguel Viu Manent. They are one of the longest established producers in the region. Initially the family focused on a negociant wine business however, in 1966 they fulfilled a long-held ambition and bought the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco and the vineyards in the Colchagua Valley from which they had long sourced their wines. The estate included 150 hectares of noble, pre-phylloxera vines.
