Stand C22.
Environmental and ethical working practices are at the heart of our portfolio of wines and cognacs. We only work with producers who take these concerns seriously and place them at the centre of their daily working practices. The following is a small selection of wines from our portfolio made following sustainable, organic and biodynamic philosophies.
Michel Redde et Fils Pouilly-Fumé La Moynerie 2015
The Redde family have been vignerons for 13 generations. Their 40 hectare domaine is one of the largest in the appellation and sits on a diverse range of soils and aspects including Kimmeridgian Marl, Portlandian Limestone, Creteaceous Silex and Oxfordian Limestone. La Moynerie is the Redde’s principal wine and takes its name from the domaine. It comes from vineyards located on all four soil types from vines aged between 20 and 25 years old. It is a balanced and expressive example of the wines produced by the family. The Redde’s work sustainably with minimal additions in the vineyard and winery.
Viu Manent Secret Viognier 2015
Viu Manent's sustainability policy has seen them address working practices throughout their business. It has led to initiatives such as carbon neutral delivery and recycling schemes for liquid and solid waste. They have received accreditation from Wines of Chile, CEMARS and The Carbon Neutral Company. The Secret range of wines has a closely guarded secret related to land, proportions, and balance. The result is a line of blended wines made with a primary varietal component that is recognized and indicated on the label complemented by a closely guarded secret blend of up to 15% in each of these. The grapes come from Viu Manent’s San Carlos vineyard in the Colchagua Valley.
Morgenhof Estate Chardonnay 2015
Morgenhof Estate is situated in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The 213 hectare estate is located on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountain where 78 hectares are planted to vineyards. The vineyards are dry farmed and worked to allow the myriad of different terroirs found on the farm to express themselves in the finished wines. On the nose their Chardonnay has flavours of pear, passion fruit and pineapple. These tropical flavours follow through onto a creamy palate with subtle wood integration and a long, lingering finish.
Henry Fessy Château des Labourons Fleurie 2015
Henry Fessy acquired the Château des Labourons vineyard in 2011. It’s a prime site on the hillside above the village of Fleurie where their 18 hectares are planted at an altitude of 350-400 metres above sea level on thin soils composed of igneous rock. Mainly pale pink granite that breaks down into coarse sand and creates blockfields. The former owners of this vineyard the de Lescure family always aged their wines in wood and so to maintain this tradition Laurent Chevalier matures 10% of the wine in oak barrels (5% new, 5% one year old)
Seresin Estate Leah Pinot Noir 2014
Founded in 1992 by cinematographer Michael Seresin, Seresin Estate is farmed organically and operates under biodynamic principals. Seresin Estate encompasses not only the vines and olive groves, but also pasture land, livestock, vegetable gardens and orchards, as well as native vegetation. A blend from all three of Seresin's vineyard sites, Leah is named after Michael Seresin’s daughter. The fruit comes mostly from Seresin's clay-rich hillside Raupo Creek vineyard in the Omaka Valley, with a small amount also from both the Tatou and the Noa vineyards. Seresin Estate's vineyards are farmed biodynamically and are certified by Demeter. A long post-ferment maceration period gives this wine its savoury elegance and structure.
McHenry Hohnen Amigos Red 2012
McHenry Hohnen's wines are the result of more than 30 years of biological farming, winegrowing and winemaking in Margaret River. Their vineyards are all farmed following biodynamic principals and winemaking follows simple, traditional principles with minimum additives make the genuine characters of the wine sing. A bland of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz the wine displays a nose of bright red raspberry and cherry with red liquorice and ground sweet spices. There are underlying, more complex earthy notes with dark chocolate and black pepper. Beautifully balanced with fine grained tannins, the blood orange acidity carries a long and velvety finish.
