Everyone loves a wine with bubbles and we are delighted to have so many to choose from in our portfolio. We’ve focussed on France this time with wines from Champagne and Chablis.
Champagne Gosset: Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne. It was founded in Aÿ in 1584 by Pierre Gosset an alderman and wine-grower who made mostly red wines. At that time the region’s still wines competed for pride of place on the best tables of France with the wines of Beaune which were made from the same grape varieties as they are today. In the 18th century Gosset joined their neighbours and began to make the sparkling wines for the first time. It was at this time that the house adopted the unique antique flask-shaped bottle that is still used today.
Gosset’s wines are characterised by their purity and expressiveness. Grapes come mainly from premier and grand cru vineyards surrounding Epernay and their winemaking style is characterised by minimal intervention, extended ageing and no malolactic fermentation. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the house’s focus.
The Grande Réserve is the true signature of the House. Its style rests on Pinot Noir from Ay which gives the structure to the wine. Malolactic fermentation has been avoided to preserve the freshness and the elegance of the fruit and a long ageing in cellars will bring roundness and complexity. Dosage is kept low as in the style of the house (8 g/l).
This Cuvée is almost a vintage as only a minimal amount of reserve wines has been added. This Cuvée has a soft and flowing hue of salmon pink with a few ruby-cherry reflections. The nose is clearly marked by the strawberries both the fresh fruit, and as jam. The mouth is well structured with a constant tension between freshness and a fruity roundness. It is dominated by this red pulpy fruit.
This Cuvée offers both the finesse of the Côte des Blancs and the structure of the Montagne de Reims. This cuvée is a pale golden colour. The nose reveals aromas of flowers, white fruits, apricots, Mirabelle plum and very light notes of lemon, citrus fruits, quince jelly and honey. On the palate, white flowers mingle with a hint of toastiness.
Simonnet-Febvre: In 1840 Jean Febvre, a barrel cooper from Montbard, founded the winery which is now Simonnet-Febvre. Today it remains one of the oldest and most traditional Chablis producers in the region. As well as producing top-quality Grand Cru and Premier Cru Chablis, it makes regional wines such as Côte d'Auxerre and Irancy, and remains the only house in Chablis to produce the regional sparkling wine, Crémant de Bourgogne. Crémant de Bourgogne is produced using the traditional method where the bubbles are created by an in-bottle secondary fermentation.
This Crémant de Bourgogne is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. Once in bottle it is matured for a minimum of 24 months before it is released ensuring a fine mousse (bubbles) and a rounded palate. This wine has fine bubbles and a pale golden colour. The palate is fresh and rounded with citrus and pear flavours and gently yeasty finish.
Crémant de Bourgogne Brut P100 NV
Crémant de Bourgogne Brut P100 Blanc de Noir is a dry white sparkling wine made by ensuring no colour is extracted from the red skinned Pinot Noir grapes, a style commonly known as Blanc de Noirs. A rich nutty sparkling wine with fine bubbles. The palate is dry with ripe fruit characters and a finish reminiscent of wild strawberries.
