Bruno Pepin, Commercial Director for Maison Louis Latour, has sent over a summary of last weekend at the Hospice de Beaune. Will Oatley and Richard Nunn from Louis Latour Agencies were also there representing the UK.
The 156th Hospice de Beaune charity auction took place last weekend in Beaune. This year Maison Louis Latour bought seven barrels consisting of five different cuvées.
Despite the significant drop in the average price paid per barrel, this sale was still the second highest on record after the record set for the 2015 vintage.
The fall in prices is a consequence of a complicated climate season. A very poor spring was happily followed by an exceptional summer that lasted until October allowing Maison Latour to produce a high quality vintage in moderate quantities. This will not lead to a direct reduction in prices for the 2016 vintage but will limit the increases seen in recent years and lead to wines that offer better value for money.
