On the 8th November Laurent Chevalier Henry Fessy’s winemaker conducted the first tasting of his 2010 Cru Beaujolais for the UK wine press.
The 2010 Crus, released at the end of 2011, have more definition and are marked with greater minerality than the super ripe and opulent 2009 vintage. Their freshness combined with good structure has produced wines that are juicy and enjoyable in their youth with enough balance and structure to ensure graceful ageing.
Laurent Chevalier noted that the 2010 growing season had not been without its challenges. The spring had brought more rain and clouds than an average growing season however good weather from the end of July allowed the grapes to ripen fully. They were harvested in good health between the 15th September and the 1st October, typical picking dates for the Beaujolais region.
Henry Fessy is unique in Beaujolais because they are the only domaine to specialise in the region's top wines, the 10 Beaujolais Crus. These vineyards run along the region’s northern granite and schist rich hillsides; beginning with St Amour in the north and finishing in the South with Brouilly. The Domaine contains vineyards in 9 out of the 10 Beaujolais Crus with the aim to add the missing Cru Chiroubles once suitable vineyards can be found. This resource gives them a unique insight into the region and each vintage.
Update: February 2012
The majority of 2010 wines have been released, Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, Brouilly, Morgon, Moulin à Vent and Fleurie along with the rare Beaujolais Blanc will all be available from our UK stocks with the remaining 6 Crus available for ex-cellars customers.
