Congratulations to Sommelier Oskars Mickens and Chef Piero Italiano from Heritage in London who won Gosset Matchmakers 2019! The duo won with their dish ‘Where the Land Meets the Sea’ (pictured) which was paired with Gosset Grand Millésime 2012.
Since 2016 Champagne Gosset have worked with Imbibe magazine to bring about Gosset Matchmakers Competition. Designed to challenge young sommeliers and young chefs from all over the UK to create a fantastic dish to pair with one of their award-winning champagnes, this is aimed at those who have been in the trade for less than 5 years.
Each year there is a different challenge and this year the pairs had to work together to create a match for Gosset’s new vintage, Grand Millésime 2012. This year they also had to take part in a second round, a mystery-box full of plant-based ingredients and they had to create a dish to match Petite Douceur Rosé NV, an Extra-Dry champagne.
Oskars and Piero have won a two-day trip to Champagne Gosset where they will have a full tour of the winery and cellars and most-excitingly a blending masterclass from Chef de Cave Odilon de Varine.
The entrants this year were:
A big thank you to our judges: Jean-Pierre Cointreau from Champagne Gosset, Jan Konetzki from Four Seasons Ten Trinity Square, Mattieu Longuere MS from Le Cordon Bleu, Marcus Wareing from Marcus Wareing Restaurants, Melody Wong from Midsummer House and Chris Losh, a freelance journalist along with our very own Managing Director, Will Oatley.
