Congratulations to Frapin who have won a double gold medal for Frapin 1270 as well as a gold medal for Château Fontpinot XO at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Last month spirits experts gathered to taste more than 3,000 spirits. In a blind tasting the cognacs were assessed and marked on the nose, palate, appearance and overall balance.
Frapin’s 1270 was judged within the “VS Cognac” class. This cognac is named after the year the Frapin family began growing vines in the region. The cognac is well rounded and fruity meaning it is well suited for cocktails. It shows great finesse and is the perfect introduction before discovering the entire range.
Château Fontpinot XO was awarded a gold medal in the “XO Cognac” class. This X.O. Cognac is the fruit of long ageing, mostly in dry cellars which gives it a subtle, complex and refined bouquet. This very old reserve XO can lay claim to the Château appellation because it is made exclusively from grapes harvested, distilled, aged and bottled at the Château Fontpinot.
Frapin is unique and differs greatly from the region’s other significant producers. Their Cognacs are made entirely on the family’s single estate which includes 240 hectares of vines surrounding the Château de Fontpinot with its distillery and ageing warehouses over two levels. The whole property lies in the Grande Champagne area which is regarded as Cognac’s best appellation and is highly prized for both the quality and intensity of its spirits and their longevity. The extended ageing that all Frapin’s Cognacs receive sets them apart from their competitors and contributes to the House’s rich, complex and smooth style.
