Viu Manent began the 2016 harvest on the 29th February with a nocturnal machine harvest of the young Chardonnnay in their San Carlos Vineyard.
Next they moved on to Viognier as well as the Malbec destined for their Malbec Rosé. These grapes are picked earlier than the rest of the Malbecs because they want additional acidity and fruit concentration in the Rosé.
During the week of the 7th March they picked the Sauvignon Blanc at the San Carlos Vineyard.
The Chardonnay harvest began first this year because it generally ripened earlier than the Sauvignon Blanc due to the low yields in the vineyards that resulted from the weather.
The weather during spring was varied and humidity levels were relatively high. The summer was mild and very similar to the conditions in 2015.
On the 15th March there was a 10 day delay in some varieties due to the late onset of the spring, but this expected delay could reverse itself in the coming weeks.
