We took part in the Brunello Crossing on Sunday 10th February with a small group from the UK along with several of Banfi's members of staff. Five of us enjoyed the 13km non-competitive race but Dan Gadsby from Small Beer & Wine was the real star on the day, coming in 91st out of 238 in the competitive 13km trail run.
The Brunello Crossing hold 13km, 23km and 44km competitive trail races as well as a 13km non-competitive race. The non-competitive race is for both walkers and runners and includes stops at local wineries to sample their wine with some local delicacies.
Banfi are one of the sponsors of the Crossing which was started by sports enthusiasts to create competitive races in the beautiful hills around Montalcino. The competitive races are all circular with the start and finish lines in Montalcino - there are hills from the word go! The non-competitive race began in Torrenieri following undulating trails through vineyards, finishing in Montalcino after a particularly steep last kilometre. The event comes the weekend before Benvenuto Brunello - a large event presenting the new vintage of Brunello to the market.
We really enjoyed the day - it was a wonderful trail and the views were incredible - particularly from the top. It was a real pleasure to attend, thank you to Banfi for inviting us.
