Viré-Clessé lies in the north of Mâconnais between the towns of Tournus and Mâcon. It is one of Burgundy's newest appellations and was formed to bring together the villages of Viré and Clessé which until 1999 bottled their wines as Mâcon-Clessé and Mâcon-Viré. Viré-Clessé chardonnay's are distinctly different from the southern Mâconnais appellations such as Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint Véran offering fresh, delicate wines with floral and herbaceous notes. | |

Tasting note |
Clean pale yellow in colour with aromas of stoned fruits, such as mirabelle plums, honey and hawthorn. Ample and round in the mouth yet balanced with the taste of the mirabelle plums coming through on the palate.
